Superadiabatic quantum state transfer in spin chains

This paper proposes a superadiabatic protocol for quantum state transfer across spin chains with an odd number of spins. We show that the transfer protocal achieves arbitrarily high accuracy with minimal control and only requires the control of couplings between the qubits on the edge and the spin chain. We predict fidelities above 0.99 for an evolution of nanoseconds using typical spin exchange coupling values on the order of µeV.

Multiparticle entanglement under the influence of decoherence

We present a method to determine the decay of multiparticle quantum correlations under the influence of decoherence quantified by the geometric measure of entanglement. Using this measure, we compare the robustness of entanglement in GHZ-, cluster-, W- and Dicke states of four qubits and show that the Dicke state is the most robust one. We also determine the geometric measure analytically for decaying GHZ and cluster states of an arbitrary number of qubits.

An analytical decomposition protocol for optimal implementation of two-qubit entangling gates

This paper addresses the question how to implement a desired two-qubit gate U using a given tunable two-qubit entangling interaction Hint (t). We present a general protocol (based on the K1AK2 decomposition of unitary matrices) for calculating the smallest number of two-qubit gates [based on Hint(t)] and single-qubit rotations, and the explicit sequence of these operations that are required to implement U, illustrate our protocol for two types of interaction (Heisenberg exchange interaction and quantum inductive coupling) and discuss the relevance of our results for solid-state qubits.

Columns and other items

These are columns I wrote for the newsletter of the Kavli Institute of Nanoscience Delft between 2013-2015:

Elementary particle poetry: In 2021, the Dutch Physical Society (NNV) hosted the ‘Dicht een Deeltje’ competition, challenging participants to write poems (in Dutch) about particles in the Standard Model that combine literary quality with physical accuracy. My entries for the muon neutrino and charm quark were awarded first prize in their categories and can be read alongside the other winners here (scroll down to the blue Standard Model diagram and select the particle).
